Mark A. Miller II, 54, of Vandalia, died Monday, Oct. 3, 2023, at 7:10 a.m. at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, MO.

Visitation was held on Sunday, Oct. 8, at the First United Methodist Church in Vandalia. Funeral services were held on Monday, Oct. 9, with the Rev. Joe Lawson, the Rev. Curtis Flake and Derek Mason officiating. Miller Funeral Home in Vandalia was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Miller, the son of Mark A. and Mary Helen (Moore) Miller, was born Aug. 5, 1969, in St. Louis, MO. He married Meri Brooke File on June 17, 2006, at Mother of Dolors Catholic Church in Vandalia. Mr. Miller attended Ramsey elementary and junior high schools. He was a 1987 graduate of Vandalia Community High School and 1991 graduate of Southern Illinois University at Carbondale with a bachelor of science degree in mortuary science and a minor in business. Mr. Miller was owner and operator of Miller Funeral Homes in Vandalia, Ramsey and Fillmore, a family-owned business of three generations.

Mr. Miller was a former member of the Ramsey First United Methodist Church and was a current member of Vandalia First United Methodist Church, where he faithfully shared his amazing drumming skills as a member of the praise band. Mr. Miller served his community 25 years as a dedicated member of the Vandalia Fire Department. He was a former member of Vandalia Country and Golf Club and Scottish Rites in Bellville, Vandalia Moose Lodge 1447, Masonic Temperance Lodge #16 A.F. & A.M. and AINAD Temperence East St. Louis Shrine.

Mr. Miller enjoyed life and respectfully supported the community through his profession and gift of caring for others. He had a heart bigger than himself and was a friend to everyone he met.

Mr. Miller is survived by wife, Brooke Miller of Vandalia; father, Mark Miller of Vandalia; sister, Michelle (Mark) Daniels of Columbia; loving in-laws, Tom “Ward” and Sid “Toony” File of Vandalia; sister-in-law, Ashley  “Mooch” (Scott) Prange of Highland; niece, McKenzie and friend, Tyler Graham of Waterloo; nephews, Mitchell Daniels of Columbia, Ryan Skrobul of Highland and Grant Prange of St. Jacob; godson, Kale Reiss of Vandalia; aunt and uncle Beverly and Dr. Wayne Mason of Libertyville; aunt Stephanie Aldendifer of Plano, TX; aunt and uncle Marsha and Howard Gulick of Bethlehem, PA; uncle Robert Herr of Glen Carbon; cousins Derek, Brian, and Chad Mason, Jimmy, Brent, Peter Aldendifer, Sarah Weinstock, John Gulick, Laura Herr and Gretchen Herr; his Vandalia Fire Department family; Mr. Miller’s four leggers and all his amazing friends.

Mr. Miller was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Helen (Moore) Miller; brother, Mark Anthony Miller; grandparents, Mark E. and Donna L. (Beccue) Miller and Doctor Stanley “Doc” and Helen “Pinkie” (Voumard) Moore; aunt Judith Ann Herr and his beloved cat, Bonzo.

The Miller family wishes to thank Dr. Adkins and the oncology department of Siteman Cancer Center and the 11th floor oncology nursing staff at Parkview Towers for their loving care and support for Mr. Miller, as well as the entire community for the love, prayers and support that have been offered during his illness.
