Loretta Jean Ulmer, 76, of Greenville, died peacefully on Sunday, April 16, 2023, at her home.

Private family funeral services will be conducted. Burial will be held at Mt. Auburn Cemetery in Greenville. Assalley-Young Funeral Home in Greenville is assisting the family.

Mrs. Ulmer was born May 27, 1946, in Bingham, to Cecil and Marie (Miller) Merriman. She married John Ulmer on Aug. 9, 1964, and they were married for 58 years. He survives.

She attended Ramsey High School before beginning work at the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service (ASCS) in Vandalia. She later became a full-time homemaker and managed Brigette Ulmer’s Dance Depot with her daughter for many years.

Mrs. Ulmer loved her family and dedicated her life to caring for her children and grandchildren. Her favorite holiday was Christmas; she maintained and added to her decorations year-round. She loved to help people and gave her time for anything, from rides to the doctor to remodeling a house.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Tracey (Misty) Ulmer of Vandalia, Brigette (Jack) Loynd of Chesterfield, MO, and Angel Leidner of Greenville; siblings, Ruth McCray of Hillsboro and Leland Merriman of The Villages, FL; grandchildren, Levi (Megan) Ulmer of Pueblo, CO, Dayin Godbersen of Jacksonville, NC, Colten Leidner, Zane Ulmer and Landon Ulmer, all of Vandalia, and Jeff (Lorraine) Leidner and Courtney Ulmer, both of Mulberry Grove; and great-grandchildren, Harlan Leidner and Aspen Ulmer.

Mrs. Ulmer was preceded in death by her parents; and siblings, Ray Merriman, Helen Merriman, Dorothy White, Loy Merriman and Juanita Simmons.
