Janet Kay Johnson, 73, died on Sunday evening, April 30, 2023, surrounded by her loving and devoted family and friends at Memorial Hospital in Springfield.

Visitation will be held on Monday, May 8, beginning at 11 a.m. at Bisch Funeral Home West, located at 2931 Koke Mill Road. Funeral services will follow at 12:30 p.m. at the funeral home with burial to follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.

Mrs. Johnson was born on Nov.  7, 1949, in Carlinville, to John V. and Alda K. Arter who preceeded her in death. She married the love of her life, Don, in Springfield, on April 16, 1988, after reconnecting with him at their 20-year high school reunion.

A graduate of Lincolnwood High School in Raymond, she held a career in banking for many years. She eventually left banking to work for the City of Springfield and then for the State of Illinois before retiring.

Mrs. Johnson loved her rescue dog, Chance, and spoiled him rotten. She also loved calling her grandchildren “monkey toes” and other silly names, giving her wonderful caregivers, Michelle, Katrina, Rosanna and Connie an entertaining and sometimes eventful work day, listening to country music, especially Willie Nelson, crafts and shopping. She was known lovingly as the QVC Queen.

Fondly known as Jan, Mama, Grandma and Sunshine, she will be loved and missed by her husband, daughters, grandchildren, family and friends.

In addition to her husband, Don Gene Johnson, she is also survived by her three daughters, Cathy Miller Moushon, Angela (Angel) Gonzalez and Lana (Alonzo Rivas) Johnson; grandchildren, Jayden Moushon, Matthew Gonzalez, Corinna Gonzalez, Alexis Gonzalez, Jacob Gonzalez, Samantha Rivas, Isabel Rivas and Layla Rivas; siblings John (Brenda) Arter of Raymond and Carol (Mark) Sexton of Spring Hill, FL; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
