James Leon Watson, 83, of Hillsboro, died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2024, at his home.
A memorial service for Mr. Watson will be held on Thursday, Feb. 29, at 6 p.m., at Hough and Sons Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Visitation will be held at 5 p.m. prior to the service.
Mr. Watson was born on Dec. 6, 1940, in rural Hillsboro to his parents Roy and Ora Mae Watson. He married Lola Jean Root on June 8, 1963, and she preceded him in death in 2017.
He worked as a diesel mechanic for over 40 years with Dale Williams Trucking in Fillmore.
Mr. Watson enjoyed watching dirt track racing and Western movies, and loved attending the BlueGrass Festival at Hillsboro Campground. He was a part of the CB Club known as “Union Man”. He attended the First Baptist Church of Hillsboro.
Mr. Watson is survived by his daughters, Paula Boerckel and Tammy Elwood, both of Hillsboro; grandchildren James Riley and Terri Martin; nine great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, Lola, he was preceded in death by one son, Rickey Leon Watson; grandson Cody Faingnaert; and four brothers and five sisters.
