Edith “Edie” Mae Silsby, 76, of Auburn, died at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 4, 2023, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

The family will host a private graveside ceremony at Beardstown City Cemetery at a later date. Cremation was provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center. Butler Funeral Home of Chatham assisted the family with arrangements.

Mrs. Silsby was born on Sept. 2, 1946, in Beardstown, the daughter of Ernest and Iva (Pedigo) Chasteen. She married Lloyd Eugene “Gene” Silsby on March 30, 1962, and he preceded her in death in 2006.

Mrs. Silsby worked as a nurse at Memorial Medical Center for over 20 years until her retirement in 2009. She enjoyed sewing and loved her pets with all her heart. Mrs. Silsby was a woman of strong faith and a member of the Auburn Congregation of Jehovah’s Witness. She was an amazing mother and always put her family first.

Mrs. Silsby is survived by her children, Edith “Marie” Silsby-Zaidle of Witt and Everett(Tabitha) Silsby of Industry; grandchildren, Lindsey (Justin) Wellenkamp and Jared Silsby, both of Beardstown; great-grandchildren, Reid, Piper and Tucker Wellenkamp; numerous nieces and nephews; and one cousin, Maryann Duncheon of Oakford.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Frederick Silsby; daughter, Elizabeth Ann; and brothers, Ralph, Wayne, and Glen Chasteen.
