Dorothy Marie Daugherty, 82, of Carlinville, died on Wednesday morning, Nov. 7, 2018, at Heritage Health: Therapy and Senior Care in Carlinville.
Visitation will be held Sunday, Nov. 11, from 3 to 6 p.m. at Davis-Anderson Funeral Home in Carlinville. Funeral services will be held Monday, Nov. 12, beginning at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home with Darrin Daugherty, associate minister at Pleasant Hill Christian Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Girard Cemetery.
Mrs. Daugherty was born April 9, 1936, in rural Girard, to Melvin Curtis and Pearl Marie (Dickey) Bristow. She married Jacob Donald Daugherty on March 27, 1954, at New Hope Methodist Church in Girard, and he preceded her in death on June 3, 2008.
She graduated from Girard High School with the class of 1954, later serving as a salesperson for Avon for 25 years and postmaster in Atwater for many years.
Mrs. Daugherty was a member of Rural Methodist Church in Carlinville, and was a past member of The Carlinville Women of the Moose and New Hope Methodist Church. She enjoyed quilting for her family and loved to follow the St. Louis Cardinals.
She is survived by her daughter, Denise Childress of Shelbyville; four sons, David (Fran) Daugherty, Sr. of Carlinville, Darrin (Barb) Daugherty of Raymond, Doug (Melinda) Daugherty of Lawrenceville and Duane (Cheryl) Daugherty of Girard; 16 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; sisters, Betty (Bob) Lehmann of Nilwood and Bev (Norman) Bryant of Fairfield; a brother, Norman (Anne) Bristow of Anchorage, AK; as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Daugherty was preceded in death by her parents; and a son-in-law, Dick Childress.
