Witt Homecoming Celebration will kick off this weekend, Saturday, Sept. 4, Sunday, Sept. 5, and Monday, Sept. 6.
Bounce Houses will be open from 6 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, 1 to 9 p.m. on Sunday, and from noon to 3 p.m. on Monday. The Witt Area Historical Museum Open House will be open from 10 a.m. until noon on Saturday, noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday and from noon to 3 p.m. on Monday.
The Labor Day celebration will get underway with the Witt High School Alumni reunion, which will be held in the Witt Lions Building. Registration and social hour is scheduled from 4 to 6 p.m., followed by a banquet at 6 p.m. To reserve a seat for the banquet contact Barb Golitko at 217-594-2883 by Tuesday, Aug. 31.
The Strugglers will close out Saturday’s festivities with a live performance, from 8 p.m. until midnight, at the Beer Pavilion.
Then on Sunday, Sept. 5, race on out for the Witt Labor Day 5K, which begins at 9 a.m. at the grandstand. Registration opens at 8 a.m. A portion of the proceeds are donated to the Montgomery County Cancer Association.
Put the pedal to the metal and head over to the car and motorcycle show from noon to 3 p.m. Registration will start at 9 a.m. at City Park. Trophy presentation will immediately follow the show. For more information contact Hank Messmore at 217-827-6632.
Check out the wares at the Witt Volunteer Fire Department’s Flea Market from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday. Interested vendors may call 217-594-7220 to reserve a spot.
Competitors can test out their skills during the Washer Pitch Contest at 1 p.m. at the Beer Pavilion. Hunter Sharp will take the stage from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Beer Pavilion.
The much loved Kiddie Parade will step off at 4 p.m., with lineup set from 3:15 to 3:45 p.m. between the firehouse and the city shed. This year’s theme is “Follow Your Dream.” Winners will be announced prior to the parade. The parade route will begin at the firehouse and end at the bandstand.
Head over to the grandstand at 6 p.m. for the Witt Royalty Pageant. Then head back to the Beer Pavilion for a live performance by 10-55 from 8 p.m. to midnight.
Monday’s festivities will kick off with the Big Parade at 11 a.m.
Lineup is set for 10 a.m. at Witt Lions Park, all entries must be registered to be judged. Parade winners will be announced at noon.
The Pedal Tractor Pull will follow the parade. Signup starts at noon downtown, with the pull to begin at 1 p.m. Make sure to check out the Hillsboro High School band performance at 12:05 p.m., downtown. The Washer Pitch Contest starts at 1 p.m., at the Beer Pavilion.
The Witt Labor Day celebrations will culminate with a live performance by Salmon Creek, from 3 to 6 p.m., at the Beer Pavilion. Prizes will be drawn at 6 p.m. at the bandstand.
