Wilma “Jo” Josephine Stamer, 85, of Springfield, died Thursday Feb. 18, 2021, at 10:33 p.m. at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

Private family funeral services will be held at a later date. Plummer Funeral Home and Cremation Services is assisting the family.

Mrs. Stamer was born May 16, 1935, in Springfield, MO, the daughter of Dines and Leana F. (Noblitt) Climer. She married Dwane Stamer on Dec. 31, 1955, and he preceded her in death on Aug. 14, 1999.

She was known for her kindness and behind-the-scenes volunteer work, as well as giving. Not one to be in the spotlight, she preferred to go about her life quietly while staying busy helping others. She was always there to support teachers in the classroom, as well as being a den mother to the Scouts. She also helped friends, neighbors, family and even strangers that needed a little help or cheering up.

In addition to her hobbies, which involved reading, sewing, knitting and cooking, she was best known for her baking, especially her pies. Nearly every week, she would bake a pie for an unexpecting neighbor or friend to brighten their day.

She is survived by two sons, Greg (Debbie) Stamer of Glen Carbon and Kirk Stamer of Phoenix, AZ; three grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews; and one great-great-niece.

In lieu of memorials or flowers, the family asks that Mrs. Stamer’s memory be honored with random acts of kindness and support a favorite charitable organization.
