William Joseph Fox, 80, of Hillsboro, died at 11:51 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2021, at OSF Heart of Mary Medical Center in Urbana.

Funeral services will begin at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 1, at Elwin United Methodist Church in Elwin with Pastor Terry Evans officiating.  Burial will follow at Moweaqua Cemetery.  Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. Friday until service time.  Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home in Hillsboro is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Fox was born on Oct. 5, 1940, in Shelbyville, the son of William T. and Grace W. (Elmers) Fox.  A graduate of Nokomis High School, he had lived in Nokomis, Blue Mound, Taylorville and Hillsboro, and had worked as a switchman and conductor for Norfolk Southern Railway.

A veteran of the U.S. Air Force from 1958-1962, he was a member of the Elwin United Methodist Church and the railroad union.

He married Terese Spengel and they later divorced.  He was engaged to Kay Gray of Hillsboro, and she survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Melissa M. (husband Matt) Wright of Cerro Gordo, and Carolyn S. Pistorius of Decatur, AL; five grandchildren, Nicholas Wright, Devon Wright, Monica Pistorius, Meagan Pistorius and Mary Grace Pistorius; and a sister, Winnie R. (husband Don) Cravens of Nokomis.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, C.W. Fox.
