Velma Mae Langen, 96, of Farmersville, died at 7:49 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 20, 2024, at the Villas of Holly Brook in Springfield.
Visitation will be Wednesday, Oct. 23, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Farmersville. Funeral services will be held on Thursday Oct. 24, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, in Farmersville with Father Emmanuel Kanga officiating. Burial will be in St. Maurice Catholic Cemetery in Morrisonville.
Mrs. Langen was born Nov. 4, 1927, in Decatur, the daughter of Frank Russell and Bertha Mae Gelsinger Hornbeck. She married Melvin “Port” Langen in Morrisonville at St. Maurice’s Catholic Church on Sept. 7, 1949, and he preceded her on Jan. 7, 2011.
Mrs. Langen was a farmwife and also waitressed and worked at the Morrisonville Bank. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Farmersville, the St. Mary’s Altar & Rosary Society and the Farm Bureau. She was an avid fan of all sports but especially the St. Louis Cardinals and the Fighting Illini. She enjoyed sewing, cooking/baking, gardening and working puzzles.
Mrs. Langen is survived by her daughter Kathy (Bob) Carnduff of Springfield and sons Ron (Sharon) Langen of Texas, Don Langen of Springfield and Dave (Sharon) Langen of Taylorville; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Ryan Langen; and three brothers and three sisters.
