Velma (Forbes) Talick, 92, of New Douglas, died Sunday, Aug. 16, 2020, at Heritage Health Center in Gillespie.

Visitation will be held Saturday, Aug. 22, from 9 to 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Livingston. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. at the church with Father George Radosevich officiating. Burial will be held in Spangle Cemetery near Livingston. All COVID-19 guidelines will be observed during visitation and funeral service. Williamson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Talick was born July 17, 1928, in rural New Douglas, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. James and Ida Mae (Arndt) Forbes. She married Albert C. Talick on Feb. 7, 1953, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Edwardsville, and he preceded her in death on Jan. 30, 2016. 

She worked as a certified nurse’s aide at Community Hospital of Staunton prior to her marriage. She then farmed full-time with her husband. She was a member of The Altar and Rosary Society at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Livingston,the Divine Mercy Group at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Staunton, as well as a volunteer at HIS Service Station in Staunton. In addition to her husband and family, the loves of her life were bird watching and flower gardening.

Mrs. Talick is survived by one son, James L. Dalhaus of New Albany, IN; one grandson; three great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Laverne Slightom of Carlinville, Lorraine Jackson of Benld and Jean Fox of Dawson; one brother, Ron Forbes of Sorento; one aunt, Hazel Blaskovich; and daughter-in-law, Katie Kelley of Livingston.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Robert C. “Bobby” Talick, and one brother, James Earl Forbes.
