After gutting out a three-game win over Litchfield on April 8, the Hillsboro volleyball team found themselves in similar territory two days later on their home court.
Taking on Beardstown, the Toppers nearly ended the match in two, winning game one 25-18, but falling to the Tigers 25-23 in the next match. Hillsboro rebounded though, earning another 25-18 decision to pick up win number seven on the year.
Haley Major had a big day on the attack for Hillsboro, notching 11 of the Toppers’ 28 kills. Kaci Papin also had eight kills for the Toppers, while Layne Rupert added in five. Jordan Jacobs and Reagan DeVaisher split setting duties with 14 and 12 assists respectively.
Ally Devore also had an assist, but was a bigger factor on the defensive end, where she notched a team-best 10 digs. Rupert added in seven digs, while Major and DeVaisher put in a half dozen digs as well.
Papin finished the day with five digs and had three blocks, while Rupert and DeVaisher added in two blocks apiece as well.
On the service line, Rupert led the way with ten points and two aces, followed by Papin and Jacobs with seven each. DeVaisher contributed five points and led the team in aces with four.
The Toppers are now 7-4 on the season and 6-2 in the South Central Conference, but would really like to add one more win to their conference record. Pana, who has been a thorn in Hillsboro’s side in volleyball for several years, visits the Toppers on Monday, April 12.
