Toppers, Panthers Play At Mattoon Invite

Thirty-eight high school boys golf teams, including Hillsboro and Litchfield, descended on Mattoon on Sept. 10-11, for this year’s Craig Dixon Invite.

Hillsboro finished 26th overall with a 712 as a team. The Toppers shot a 349 at Meadowview and a 363 at the Mattoon Country Club for the two-day 36-hole tournament.

Drake Vogel, Dillon Smail, Preston Lyerla and Dom Haggard had scoring rounds for Hillsboro, with Vogel leading the way with a 163, with rounds of 80 and 83.

Smail added in a 178, shooting 89 at both courses, while Lyerla shot a 182, shooting a 95 and an 87. Haggard rounded out the scoring with a 189, shooting a 99 and a 90 for the weekend. Tycen Thacker and Austin Loskot also played for Hillsboro, shooting a 201 and a 236 respectively.

Litchfield would finish 29th overall with a 724, shooting a 374 at the Mattoon Country Club and a 352 at Meadowview. Tug Schwab earned a top 25 finish as he shot an 82 at Mattoon and a 77 at Meadowview for a 159, good enough to tie for 23rd.

A.J. Odle backed Schwab with a 181, with rounds of 93 and 88, while Ian Otto and Kelvin Dooley each shot 193s. Otto shot a 102 and a 91 for his two rounds, while Dooley added a 97 and a 96 for the two-day tourney. Brawley Jacobs also played for Litchfield, shooting a 110 at the country club and a 94 at Meadowview for a 204.
