The Hillsboro boys golf team picked up a pair of wins on their home course on Thursday, Sept. 10, against Auburn and PORTA.
In a very close match at the Hillsboro Country Club, the Toppers defeated the Trojans by three strokes and the Blue Jays by ten as they improved to 8-2 on the year.
Hillsboro got a stellar 39 from the sixth slot as Dillon Smail posted the second lowest score of the day. Only Tyler Smith of Auburn would have a better round as he finished the day with a 2-over-par 38.
While Smail and Smith were the only two golfers in the 30s, 14 of the other 16 to hit the course on Thursday shot sub-50 rounds, including the other five Toppers.
Tad Daniels backed Smail with a 4-over 40, while Drake Vogel and Devin Speiser added in a pair of 42s for the other scoring rounds.
Dom Haggard was just behind the lead pack with a 43, which would have been a scoring round for either competitor, while Preston Lyerla also broke 50 with a 49.
The home match was one of four straight scheduled for Hillsboro, with two more coming this week against Pana and Roxana on Sept. 14, and against Vandalia on Sept. 15.
