Three Is Charming For Litchfield

For the third time in as many years, the Litchfield High School girls golf team are conference champions. The Panthers shot a 372 as a team to take first by 36 strokes over second place Staunton.

Not only was it the third straight win for the Panthers, but it was also the third individual title for junior Laura Boston, who shot a 76.

Boston's round was five strokes better than the runner-up, Staunton's Caidy Tuetken, with Litchfield's Carly Guinn coming in third with an 89. Hailey Rentz added in a 98 for the Panthers, giving them three players on the 10-person all-conference list.

In addition to the all-conference honorees, Litchfield also got a 109 from Lauren Monke and Olivia Fleming and a 114 from Charlotte Gardner.

Hillsboro would finish fourth on the day with a 424, just one stroke behind Carlinville for third. Meagan Jorn finished tied for fourth overall with a 96, while Alex Frailey also made all-conference, shooting a 101 and finishing nnth.

Sam Frailey would be 10 strokes behind her sister, while Aurelie Granito shot a 116 to round out the scoring for the Toppers.

Boys Tournament

In the boys' tournament, everyone was chasing Vandalia, the defending champions who shot a 297 on Monday to earn another title. Three of Vandalia's five players finished in the top three, with Chase Laack taking medalist honors with a 1-under-par 69.

Hillsboro and Litchfield would battle it out for second place in the team ranks, with the Toppers edging the Panthers 327 to 328.

Drake Vogel and Dillon Smail both earned all-conference honors for Hillsboro, shooting an 80 and 81, while Tug Schwab and Ian Otto did the same for Litchfield with a 75 and a 79. Schwab and Otto finished fourth and eighth, while Vogel and Smail were ninth and 10th.

Preston Lyerla and Tycen Thacker just missed all-conference honors, with Lyerla shooting an 82 and Thacker carding an 84. Dom Haggard (90) and Austin Loskot (104) rounded out the lineup for Hillsboro.

Litchfield's other two scoring rounds came from Brawly Jacobs and Zach Boston, who shot 86 and 88 respectively. Senior Kelvin Dooley added in a 95, while AJ Odle finished out with a 97.
