Thomas “Tom” R. Stone, 60, of Springfield, died at 4:42 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 27, 2022, at Springfield Memorial Hospital.

Visitation was held on Wednesday, March 2, at Butler Funeral Home in Springfield. A funeral ceremony will be held on Thursday, March 3, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Ben Alexander officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.

Mr. Stone was born on June 6, 1961, in Springfield, the son of Jerry V. Stone and Charlotte (Cellini) Hammitt.

A graduate of Lanphier High School, he worked for the State of Illinois, Caritas Bingo Hall and at Fairview Restaurant and spent most of his working life as a waiter. He was also a member of the Statesmen Drum and Bugle Corps and a part of Junior League bowling. He enjoyed puzzles, music, cheering for the St. Louis Cardinals, and was a huge fan of Disney, especially Mickey Mouse.

He is survived by his father, Jerry (wife Marilyn J.) Stone of Brookfield, MO; siblings, Jerry (wife Jamie) Stone of Springfield, Andrea (husband Brian) Lee of Auburn, formerly of Litchfield, Franklin (fiancé Ashley) Hammitt of Springfield, and Eric (friend Nicole) Stone of Kansas City, MO; nieces and nephews, J.R. Stone, Cam Lee, Jennifer Lahr, Clara Kapp, Gabby Lee; several great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles; and two friends who were like sisters, Sharon Goretzke and Elizabeth Ballard.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Charlotte; stepfather, Frank Hammitt; and cousin, Angela Cellini-Curry.
