Theila Marie (Bowman) Shetler, aged 85, died on May 5, 2023, at her home in Springfield.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, May 27, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 3601 Buckeye Dr. in Springfield. Funeral services will follow at the church at noon. Interment will be held at Farmington Cemetery near Pleasant Plains. Mott and Henning Funeral Home in Athens is assisting the family.
Mrs. Shetler was born Dec. 4, 1937, in Oneida, NY, the daughter of James Lewis Bowman (1901 – 1966) and Esther Stanton (1901 – 1986).
She graduated from Canastota High School, Canastota, NY, and earned a degree in elementary education from Oswego State University in Oswego, NY. She retired from Walmart in 2011 after 21 years of service. Her favorite things to do were reading, spending time with her granddaughter, and finding stories about her ancestors. She was also a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Mrs. Shetler is survived by her son, Christopher and daugter-in-law Nelida of Springfield; granddaughter, Emily of Springfield; her sister Elsie (husband Lawrence “Virgil”) Wethington of Poplar Bluff, MO and several nieces and nephews living in the United States and Peru.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Gene (1933 – 2011).
