Senior Torrence Clark made the most of her final South Central Conference Tournament on Saturday, Oct. 10, while two of her sophomore teammates also made it to the final rounds of the event held on the courts of the Hillsboro Sports Complex.
Clark, one of two Toppers playing in the singles draw, finished third on the day, beating Gracie Philpot of Vandalia 8-6 in the third place match. Clark made it to the medal round with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Vandalia's Samantha Rittis, but fell 6-0, 6-0 to eventual champion Stephanie Kamp in the semifinals.
Hillsboro's other singles entry, Meghan Garmon, lost to the second place finisher, Roxana's Lindsey Ratliff, who beat Garmon 6-0, 6-0, and Philpot 6-0, 6-1, before falling to her teammate 6-4, 6-1 in the title match.
In doubles play, the sophomore duo of Paige Lucykow and Sally Mattson finished fourth overall, losing to the team of Evie Johnson and Katelyn Ridens 8-2 in their final match.
Lucykow and Mattson beat Riely Ward and Angelica Ferranto of Vandalia 6-3, 7-5 in their first match, but fell to Greenville's Ellie Schaufelberger and Paige Mathias in a 6-2, 7-6, 10-6 thriller in the semifinals.
Ella Pfeifer and Brook Ozier also played doubles, but fell to the eventual champions, Savannah Milsap and Cayla Fansher of Roxana 6-0, 6-3.
In the overall team standings, Roxana would finish first with eight wins, followed by Greenville with four wins and Hillsboro with three. Vandalia would round out the field with one win on the day.
