Still Time To Purchase Bicentennial Time Capsule

The Montgomery County Bicentennial committee wants to remind all of the municipalities, organizations, and residents of the county that it is not too late to prepare your contribution to the county-wide 50-year time capsule.

The time capsule is in honor of the county’s 200th birthday this year. There will be a short ceremony on Sunday, Nov. 28, at 1 p.m. to place the items and seal the crypt which will be opened in the year 2071.

Ideally, items should reflect current times and could include a photo of a city or village hall with current officials, a key to the city, a 2021 graduation program or tassel, a church bulletin, a gasoline receipt, sports items, a COVID-19 mask, news articles (covering events, pageants, etc.), or any other items related to 2021.  There is no charge for any municipal entity to participate. Any private business, church, organization, or family may also contribute to the time capsule for a fee of $10.

All proceeds will be donated to the Oak Grove Cemetery in Hillsboro which is providing a crypt for the time capsule in its mausoleum.

Containers for time capsule items are still available, courtesy of Todd and Lora Dean of Hillsboro, and can be obtained by calling Patty Whitworth at 217-246-2806.  Whitworth will also collect the containers when each one is ready and will be glad to pick them up if needed.
