The Hillsboro Sports Association (HSA) Basketball Program recently presented two $10,000 donations to the Hillsboro Junior High School Basketball Program and the Hillsboro High School Basketball Program.
The Hillsboro Sports Association (HSA) Basketball Program is a non-profit organization that is implemented by a committee made up of volunteers. The goal of the HSA Basketball Program is to allow area youth to have fun while learning the fundamentals of basketball.
The program begins with children in second and third grade, giving them the opportunity to play along with the Nokomis Basketball Program. Boys and girls in the fourth, fifth and sixth grades have the option to play on both recreational and competitive travel teams, separated by grade level and gender. The older level teams travel to play with teams in the South Central Conference area and in surrounding communities. Volunteer coaches are the driving force and backbone of these teams.
Each year the HSA basketball program organizes two tournaments, one for girls and one for boys. They host the area conference teams and generally have between 24 to 36 teams participate.
“We wanted the money made from our tournaments to benefit our community’s basketball programs,” Hillsboro Sports Association Basketball Director Kendra McSperritt explained. “We hope that the Hillsboro Junior High and the Hillsboro High School Basketball Programs can use this money for new uniforms, warm ups or any future equipment needs.”
