Sonja Ann Heldebrandt, 86, died at 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 24, at Nokomis Nursing and Rehab Home.
The youngest of seven children, Mrs.Heldebrandt was born May 15, 1938, to Lee and Faye Peters of Taylorville. She graduated from Taylorville High. She met the love of her life, Darrel, in 1955 at the Calico Twirlers club and they were married Dec. 15, 1957, and enjoyed almost 65 years of marriage. Mrs.Heldebrandt helped her husband in 4-H. She raised a vary large garden and canned every bit of her bounty. Mrs.Heldebrandt was a very good cook and was known for her famous bread making and her jellies. She loved being with her large family.
Mrs.Heldebrandt worked at Flenches grading eggs, Jewels shopping center, Johnston’s shopping center for five years and lastly she was the baker in the bakery at County Market for 16.5 years.
Mrs. Heldebrandt is survived by her children, Charlotte (Rick) Edgecombe, Lee (Gale) Heldebrandt, Sue (Terry) Roberts, Jane (Morris) Johnson, Cathy (friend Norman Griffin) Walker, Charles (Kim) Heldebrandt and Amy (Jarod) Durbin; eighteen grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Heldebrandt is preceded in death by her husband; her parents; four brothers, Darrell, Roy, Jerry and Gene; and two sisters, Phoebe and Hope.
