Sky's The Limit For Fly Series Racers


The series finale of the Fly Racing Showdown Series happened on Sunday, Nov. 1, at Lincoln Trail Motorsports, with several area riders hitting the track.

Huntley Durbin of Hillsboro would finish 17th in the 50cc Junior division for four, five and six-year-olds, running 20th in the first moto and 17th in the second. Durbin would also finish 33rd in the 50cc Open division, running 34th in the first moto and 33rd in the second.

Trenton Kimbro of Taylor Springs took 13th overall in the 85cc Junior division, which featured riders from ages nine to 11. Kimbro ran 17th in the first moto, but moved up six spots in the second moto. In the 85cc Open, Kimbro finished 25th overall, running 22nd in the first moto and 27th in the second.

In the 30+ A class, Litchfield’s Derek Birkenkamp finished fourth overall, with runs of fifth and fourth in the two motos. Birkenkamp would also finish eighth in the Open A division.

Ryan Petroski of Irving finished 15th in the 250 C class, running 19th out of 21 riders in the first moto, but improving six spots in the second race.

In the Open Beginnner division, Christopher Furlow of Witt finished 12th, while Bradlee Saxby was 29th. Furlow finished 17th and 12th in the two motos, while Saxby finished 22nd in the first moto, but did not start the second.

The Fly Racing Showdown Series will tentatively host its championship awards banquet on Saturday, Dec. 12.

Several riders from the Journal-News coverage area have finished in the top ten in the final points standings for the series, including Birkenkamp, who is first in the 30+ A division. Others in the top ten include Adam Wright  of Hillsboro(fifth in the 30+ A division), Ryan Petroski of Irving (eighth in the 250 C and Open C divisions), Blake Copeland of Morrisonville (sixth in the 25+ A division), Gerald Harrison, Jr. of Morrisonville (seventh in the 40+ B/C division), Dawson and Ethan Chestnut of Sorento (seventh and eighth in the Open A division) and Trenton Kimbro of Taylor Springs (eighth in the 85 Junior division).
