Sharon Lee Perkinton, 84, of Springfield, died Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2024, at Lewis Memorial Christian Village.

Visitation was held on Monday morning, Dec. 30, 2024, at Elm Street Christian Church, located at 3020 E. Elm St., Springfield, followed by a funeral ceremony at 10 a.m., with Chaplain Nick Butcher officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.

Mrs.Perkinton was born on Nov. 11, 1940, in Springfield, the daughter of Harold B. and Lila M. (Lankford) Jones. She married Thomas W. Perkinton on Sept. 1, 1995, in Springfield, and he preceded her in death, on March 26, 2021.

Mrs.Perkinton graduated from Lanphier High School. She went on to work in the insurance industry with Horace Mann, retiring in 1997. She volunteered at the state fair for many years and also at Lewis Memorial Christian Village. Mrs.Perkinton was a member of Elm Street Christian Church, where she was involved in the Women’s Faith Circle. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society, and Home Extension. Mrs.Perkinton enjoyed hunting for yard sales and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was lovingly known as “Punkin Pie” grandma. Mrs.Perkinton didn’t know a stranger, she would talk to anybody and everybody.

In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by her parents; sister, Sylvia D. Trippel; granddaughter, Emily Surgis; and a great-grandchild.

Mrs.Perkinton is survived by her daughter, Kelly (David) Sumpter of Litchfield and son, Walter (Cindy) Surgis III of Springfield; grandchildren, Zachary T. Christensen, Brady T. Christensen and Katie (Andrew) Johnson, all of Springfield; two great-grandchildren, Drew and Kennedy, both of Springfield; sibling, David P. (Donna) Jones of Joplin, MO; and several nieces and nephews.
