The Litchfield City Council approved emergency repairs to the rotors at the city’s wastewater treatment plant during their meeting on Thursday, Oct. 7, but more preventative maintenance is on the horizon for the 20-year-old structure.
Terry Hancock, the site lead at the plant, said that they are meeting with Crawford, Murphy and Tilly Engineers to look at updating the 12 rotors in the plant, all of which are 20 years old. City Administrator Tonya Flannery said that the city will be looking at all facilities to determine what needs replaced or updated.
Alderman Woodrow Street asked if there was an extra cost due to the fact the replacement of two bearing and pillow blocks for the rotors on the oxidation ditch were considered emergency repairs. Hancock said there was a slight increase in cost due to the scarcity of the metal used for the repairs. The cost of the project is not to exceed $20,720.
The emergency repairs motion was the only one to draw any discussion during Thursday’s meeting, which was in open session for seven minutes before going into closed session to discuss setting the price of property owned by the public body.
The other motions to pass on Thursday included approval of a contract with Zobrio for IT services for the Litchfield Police Department for $9,251, approval of pay application number one for $27,705.47 to Korte & Luitjohan Contractors for work on the chemical feed at the wastewater treatment plant, approval of a contract with Mike Klaves to fill the State Street and Union Avenue planters for the fall/holiday season for an amount not to exceed $7,720 and to accept payment of $402.24 from Wolter, Beeman, Lynch and Londrigan LLP representing an ambulance bill for services rendered to their client on April 4, 2021, which will render the patient’s bill fully paid and final.
The city also approved pay request number two from Rooters Asphalt in the amount of $40,005 for work performed on State Street, but Mayor Steve Dougherty noted that some payment is still being withheld due to the inadequate striping of the road.
