Roger Keith Pauley, 83, of Tower Hill, died on Sunday, Aug. 1, 2021, at 8:39 a.m. at Heritage Health: Therapy and Senior Care in Pana.

Visitation will be held Thursday, Aug. 5, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Howe and Yockey Funeral Home in Shelbyville. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, Aug. 6, beginning at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Lynn Laughlin officiating. Burial will follow at Tower Hill Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Pana Veterans Honor Guard.

Mr. Pauley was born Aug. 20, 1937, in Pana, to Rex Morgan and Nellie Mae (White) Pauley. He married Joyce Ann Corley on April 30, 1960, and she survives.

He graduated from Tower Hill High School with the class of 1955. He served in the U.S. Army National Guard from 1961 to 1966, earning the rank of staff sergeant.

Mr. Pauley was a member of the Illinois Union of Operating Engineer Local #965, where he worked as an operator and business agent. He also farmed in the Tower Hill area for many years.

He served on the Tower Hill Fire Protection District; Shelby County Board from 1998 to 2001, two of those years as interim chairman; and Tower Hill School Board, where he served for many years and as president.

Mr. Pauley enjoyed watching the St. Louis Cardinals, operating his heavy equipment and above all, he was passionate about helping people.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Sheri Trexler of Pana and Sandy (Rick) Calvert of Hillsboro; nine grandchildren, Connor Trexler, Brock (Hannah) Trexler, Jacob (Alyson) Trexler, Samantha (Cary) Eisentraut, Lacey (Steven) Osborne, Ian (Paiton) Calvert, Noah (Casey) Calvert, Levi Calvert and Faith Calvert; and eight great-grandchildren, Eva, Penelope, Judah, Theodore, Stella, Emerson, Adelyn and Hudson.

Mr. Pauley was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Donald L. Pauley; and sister, Rita K. Gingrey.
