Roger E. Hamlin, 75, of Gillespie, died at Copper Creek Cottages of Litchfield at 9:45 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2024.
Funeral services were held on Friday, Nov. 22 at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Springfield. Kravanya Funeral Home assisted with arrangements.
Mr. Hamlin was born on Oct. 23, 1949, in Mt. Vernon, to Billy Hamlin and Kathryn Hampton Hamlin. He married Mary Lou (Sandretto) Nickles Hamlin on Feb. 21, 2004, in Gillespie, and she survives. He was retired after having been a stationary fireman for Jacksonville Development Center. He was a member of the St. Paul’s Masonic Lodge of Springfield and a former member of the Mt. Pulaski Volunteer Fireman and Auxiliary Police.
He was also a former Gillespie alderman. He was an accomplished wood worker and furniture maker. He enjoyed camping, boating and spending time with family and friends, especially Kevin Bussmann and Frank Barrett Jr.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Hamlin is survived by his daughter, Stacey (Matt) Hull of Springfield; grandchild, Rosalie Jean Hull; sibling, Larry (Melinda) Hamlin of Mechanicsburg; brothers-in-law, Rob (Angela) Sandretto of Gillespie, Maynard (Brenda) Hampton of Litchfield; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
