Robert Waldo McElroy, 61, of Hillsboro, died Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2021.

Visitation was held Sunday, Jan. 2, from 2 to 4 p.m., at Stiehl-Dawson Funeral Home in Nokomis. Burial will be at a later date.

Mr. McElroy was born Oct. 9, 1960 at Madigan Army Hospital, in Tacoma WA, near Ft. Lewis, the army post where his father was stationed. He was the son of Paul Dean and Waneta Maxine McElroy. He married Tawny Ray Meek on Oct. 25, 1994 in Springfield, where they shared 27 years of of married life.

He was a graduate of Hillsboro High School and Lincoln Land Community College. He worked for Montgomery Ward, and then drove a bus for Access Springfield transporting disabled people, until he became disabled himself with a genetic disease called myotonic dystrophy.

Mr. McElroy is survived by his parents; his wife Tawny; brothers Ronald (wife Janet), of Hillsboro, and Roger (wife Kay), of Bunker Hill; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved cat Riley.

He was preceded in death by his brother Randy; step-sister, Paula Stawicki; step-mother,Linda; and step-father Claude Pearson, Jr.
