Robert Schniepp, 87, of Hillsboro, formerly of rural Nokomis, died Wednesday, May 27, 2020, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

Private family graveside services were held Sunday, May 31, in Nokomis Cemetery with limited Masonic rites and limited military rites. Stiehl-Dawson Funeral Home in Nokomis assisted the family.

Mr. Schniepp was born July 30, 1932, in Rosamond Township, the son of Ada and Fred Schniepp. He married Betty Barringer on June 22, 1958, and she survives.

He attended Nokomis High School and graduated with the class of 1950. He served in the army during the Korean War and was deployed overseas there.

After honorable discharge from the army, he returned home to help his father farm. He pursued a career in farming after he got married. He was active in the church and community, and belonged to several organizations, including Ancient Free and Accepted Masons, the American Legion, Central Illinois Beef Association, Eastern Star and the ATA.

He enjoyed vacations with his family from the beaches of the Outer Banks, to the beaches of Hawaii, as well as trips to California to visit his daughter and granddaughter. His unofficial motto was “a stranger is just someone I haven’t talked to yet.”

In addition to his wife, he is survived by brother, Orville; sister, Virginia (Clark) of Decatur; daughter, Melody of Oxnard, CA; son, Jim (Ives Vidal) of Chicago; and granddaughter, Ellen of Los Angeles, CA.
