Robert L. Cerven, 79, of Irving died at 8:25 p.m. Monday, Aug. 16, 2021 at his home.

Visitation  will be held from 9:30 to 11 a.m.  Saturday, Aug. 21, at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Hillsboro. A funeral Mass will follow at 11 a.m. with Fr. Dan Willenborg officiating. Burial will follow at St. Raymond Catholic Cemetery in Raymond.  Hough and Sons Funeral Home in Hillsboro is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Cerven was born on Oct. 29, 1941, in Pana, the son of Paul Joseph, Sr. and Emma Ann (Desatick) Cerven. He was a  Yeoman Third Class in the U.S. Navy, then attended Eastern Illinois University in Charleston and graduated with a BS in Accounting in 1971. He married Carolyn A. Walch on Nov. 26, 1971 at St. Raymond Catholic Church in Raymond, and she survives.

He was working as an accountant at Federated Funeral Directors Association in Springfield before he retired in 2003. He had also worked locally for David Fleming CPA and Schmidt Trucking in Litchfield.

He enjoyed playing tennis and watching reruns of old Westerns, and especially enjoyed family holiday get-togethers and family reunions.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Stephen (wife Jennifer) Cerven of Colchester; daughters, Leann (husband Wesley) Kridner of New Boston, MI, and Laura Cerven of Harrodsburg, KY; grandchildren, Collin and Austin Cerven,  and Isabel, Henry and Lillian Kridner; siblings, Marie Tolly of Louisville, KY, Paul J. (wife Grace) Cerven of Blue River, WI, Martin Cerven of Pana, Barbara (husband Patrick) Norris of Pana, Veronica (husband Floyd) Patten of Stacy, MN, James (wife Rebecca) Cerven of Carbondale, Andrew (wife Kathryn) Cerven of Charleston; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
