Robert “Bob” Bergen, 80, of Chatham, died on Tuesday, July 12, 2022, at his home, surrounded by his family.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, July 26, at Bisch Funeral Home in Springfield. Bisch and Son Funeral Home of Springfield assisted the family with arrangements.

Mr. Bergen was born on Aug. 28, 1941, in Springfield, to Harry A. and Maryann Stramick Bergen.

In 1961, Mr. Bergen graduated from Lanphier High School and went on to proudly serve his country by joining the U.S. Navy from 1961 to 1966. He worked for Fiatallis in Springfield. Mr. Bergen later started his own business, Bob Bergen Heating and Cooling, which continues to serve the Sangamon County area after 35 plus years. During his leisure time, Mr. Bergen enjoyed spending time with family, swimming, taking cruises and traveling. He was a 42 year member of the Chatham Central Lodge 523 A.F. & A.M.

Mr. Bergen is survived by his wife, B.J. Bergen of Chatham; one daughter, Patty (Heidi) Lear of Orlando, FL; two sons, Mike and Frank Bergen of Springfield; one step-son, Brian (Jennifer) Hollis of Plainfield; two step-daughters, Becky (Jim) Rychel and Melissa Hollis (Companion, Terrell Silas) of Springfield; seven grandchildren, Hayden, Josh, Calvin, Ashley, Shaunna, Lindsy and Makenzie; five great-grandchildren, True, Kamryn, Marleo, Jazlynn and Kaison; four siblings, Carol (Wayne) Mendenhall of Chatham, Bill (Joyce) Bergen of Litchfield, Tom Bergen of Riverside, CA, and Jeanette Seitz of Springfield; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
