Rita A. Miller, 81, of Witt, died on Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2020, at her home with her family by her side.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, Aug. 18, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at St. Louis Catholic Church in Nokomis. Funeral Mass will follow, beginning at 11 a.m. at the church. Those who wish to attend are encouraged to adhere to CDC guidelines by wearing masks and social distancing. Stiehl-Dawson Funeral Home in Nokomis is assisting the family.

Mrs. Miller was born Dec. 30, 1938, in Taylorville, to George Earl and Jessa Mae (Craig) Kessler. She married Gary L. Eddington on April 20, 1955, and he preceded her in death on Oct. 17, 1978. She then married Roger J. Miller on Dec. 3, 1988, and he survives.

She served as a multi-township assessor of Witt and Fillmore for over 18 years.

Mrs. Miller was a member of St. Louis/St. Barbara’s Catholic churches and American Farm Heritage Museum in Greenville. She served as the treasurer for the NOW Organization.

She loved camping and was an avid quilter.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Miller is survived by her children, Joe Eddington of Witt and Lora (Cecil) Polley of Owaneco; grandchildren, April (Josh) Hadowsky, Amber (Dave) Collier, Abby (Joe) Bugg, Mitchell Eddington, Jace Eddington and Buck (Amanda) Polley; great-grandchildren, Jaden, Jenna and Joslyn Hadowsky, Aubrie Patkus, Makenna Compagni, Jonah Collier, Alaina and Alivia Bugg, Breanna (Robert) Grant, Valerie Collier, Dylan Collier, Nellea Polley and Nollen Polley.

In addition to her first husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Blake Polley; and brother, Jim Kessler.

Memorials may be directed to St. Barbara’s Catholic Cemetery in Witt.
