Richard “Dick” Wayne Meier, 79, of Pawnee, died on Friday, Feb. 24, 2023, at 8:54 p.m. at Springfield Memorial Hospital.

Cremation rites were accorded by Lincoln Land Cremation Society in Springfield.

Mr. Meier was born July 2, 1943, in Springfield, to Elmer and Minnie (Boston) Meier. He married Patricia Ann Cronister on July 13, 1983, in Springfield, and she survives.

He graduated from Litchfield High School. During his career, he owned and operated Pawnee IGA for 30 years and was active in the business community.

Mr. Meier was an avid hunter for many years and served as a hunting guide. He enjoyed gardening, had a large pumpkin patch, and shared the wealth of his crops with his neighbors and numerous friends. He also loved to cook. 

He will be sadly missed by his community.

In addition to his wife of 40 years, Mr. Meier is survived by his sons, Brian Meier and Harry (Stacey) Thornton, Jr., both of Pawnee, and Richie (Dawn) Meier, Jr. of Hillsboro; daughters, Hope (Kevin) Castle of Farmer City and Shelly (Lance) Craigmiles of Pawnee; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; siblings, Maggie Walker of Hillsboro and Ed Meier of Litchfield; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Jim Meier.
