Richard “Rick” Ridings, 63, of Greenville, died on Friday, Sept. 10, 2021, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 14, at Assalley-Young Funeral Home in Greenville. Funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 15,  at Mt. Nebo Primitive Baptist Church in Greenville with the Rev. Willie Huffine officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Nebo Cemetery.

Mr. Ridings was born on Dec. 20, 1957, in Highland to James T. ‘Jim’ and Marilyn F. (Childers) Ridings. He married Barbara Davis in Highland on Dec. 2, 1977, and she survives.

He is also survived by his children, Adam (Edna Hale) Ridings, Richard “Richie” Ridings, and Kayla (Bobby Stief) Ridings, all of Greenville; granddaughter, Hanna Stief, at home; his mother, Marilyn F. (Childers) Smith of Greenville, and his father, Jim (Marjorie) Ridings of Greenville; and brothers, James M. Ridings of Greenville, Tim Ridings of Greenville, Bart Ridings of Morton, Joel Ridings of Haines City, FL, and Brent Langel of Donnellson.

He was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather. His granddaughter, Hannah, was the apple of his eye and he enjoyed playing, doting and spending time with her. He could best be described as mischievous, ornery, caring, and loving. He was passionate about his family, hunting and fishing. 

He drove for Cassens, Tally Transport, IHC, and also worked at Tomboy Warehouse and the Greenville F.S., as well as being a member of the Moose club in Marion County, FL, Quail and Upland Game Association, and IFOR.
