Richard “Dick” Porter, 76, of Taylorville, died Sunday, April 4, 2021, at 8:05 p.m. at his daughter’s home in Morrisonville.
He will be cremated and laid to rest with his wife in Fraley Cemetery. His family will host a Celebration of their lives at a later date. McClure Funeral Home in Taylorville is assisting the family.
Mr. Porter was born Oct. 21, 1944, in Christopher, the son of RJ and Camille (Turner) Porter. He married Ruth Ann Loepker on July 30, 1966, in Litchfield, and together they truly enjoyed life, their family and traveling the world.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the Moose Lodge in Taylorville. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. For 37 years, he worked for Caterpillar, retiring and enjoying life as soon as he was able. He and his wife toured the country, driving or riding their Goldwing motorcycle, and flying wherever wheels couldn’t reach. They both had so much fun playing Blackjack, that they enjoyed traveling to play in Las Vegas, NV, and Tunica, MS. He had a deep love for his wife and family, and will be deeply missed.
Mr. Porter is survived by his children, Dawn (Marty) Durbin of Morrisonville and Jay (Michelle) Porter of Geneva; grandchildren, Jessie Borgic, Marissa Borgic, Shelby Porter, Sarah Porter and Amelia Durbin; sister, Barb (Larry) Buckley of Taylorville; and a brother, Bob (Leslie) Porter of Auburndale, FL.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Jeff Porter, and his sister, Bonita Bennett.
