Richard Dean Cole Sr., 75, of Hillsboro died on Tuesday, June 7, 2022, surrounded by loved ones at his residence.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Hough and Sons Funeral Home in Hillsboro is assisting the family with arrangements.
Mr. Cole was born on May 7, 1947, in Decatur, to Lawrence and Gertrude (Nichols) Cole. He married Ruby George and she preceded him in death. Mr. Cole worked at ADM in Decatur.
Mr. Cole is survived by his children, Richard D. (Mary) Cole Jr. of Witt and Tina Cole of Gillespie; a grandson, who he raised, Shane Cole of Litchfield; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a sister, Frances Mayberry of Witt; and his beloved dog, Layla.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his daughter Sandra, who passed in infancy; his parents; and siblings, Rosie, Sonny, Butch, Mildred and Mary.
