Richard “Dago” Allen Tomazzoli, 73, of Nokomis, died at 2:46 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, 2024, at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 9, at Plummer Funeral Home. The Rev. Gary Schwab, of the First Presbyterian Church of Litchfield, will be officiating. Burial will be in Elm Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday, Aug. 9, 2024 from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
Mr. Tomazzoli was born on July 14, 1951, in Coalton, to Mario “Tye” and Blanche (Lorion) Tomazzoli. He joined the U.S. Army in 1968 and served overseas until 1974. Mr. Tomazzoli married Linda Sue Bangert on Aug. 22, 1970, and they later divorced. Once his service was completed, he proudly worked as a coal miner and an officer in his union.
Along with his kindness and generosity, Mr. Tomazzoli was a real talker and his smile always lit up the room. In the world of baseball, he was a serious Chicago Cubs fan and even named his dog “Cubbie.” He also enjoyed working on vehicles and was a proud veteran.
He is survived by his granddaughter, Jenna Tomazzoli of Nokomis; nieces and nephews, Dawn (Tomazzoli) Stewart of California, Sean (Michelle) Tomazzoli of Germantown, Paul “Zee” (Lisa) Tomazzoli, Jr. of Cobden, Joe Norris of Langleyville and Terra and Tina Tomazzoli, both of Springfield; sister-in-law, Barb Tomazzoli; half-brothers, Ron Vandever and Mike Vandever; half-sister, Debbie Vandever; and several other nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Shane Tomazzoli; daughter, Angela Tomazzoli; brother, Paul Tomazzoli; and sister, Mary Tomazzoli.
