A strong defensive effort by Nokomis helped the Redskins pick up their second win of the season on Tuesday, Aug. 31, as they defeated the Gillespie Miners in two games 25-21, 25-21.

Audrey Sabol and Skylar Stewart patrolled the net against the Gillespie hitters and sent back eight shots the other way. Sabol led the team in blocks with five, while Stewart had three.

The shots that did make it over the net were welcomed by a Nokomis back row that had two players with double digit digs. Hailey Engelman led the team with 12, while Emily Cress added 11. Natalie Engelman and Addison Dangbar also contributed to keeping the Nokomis offensive options in play with eight and five digs respectively.

Those offensive options revolved around Sabol, Stewart and freshman Rean Ward, who led the team with six kills. Sabol chipped in five kills, while Stewart added two. Hailey Engelman led the team in assists with 12, while Presley Lamb doled out a half dozen assists as well.
