The Nokomis boys basketball team picked up their two largest wins of the season to end the week as they defeated Edinburg 60-17 on March 3 and Bunker Hill 61-28 on March 6.
Wednesday’s victory over Edinburg set season-best marks for points scored, points allowed and margin of victory for the Redskins, who improved to 8-5 with the win.
The Redskins led 10-5 after one quarter, but were all gas, no brakes in the second quarter, when they outscored the Wildcats 23-4 to take a 24-point halftime lead.
The rout continued in the second half as Nokomis rolled up 17 points in the third, to seven by the Wildcats, and 10 in the fourth, holding Edinburg to just one free throw.
Jake Johnson and Ben Clavin would score 14 points apiece to lead Nokomis, while Ryan Eisenbarth and Seth Johnson also reached double figures with 13 and ten. Reece Lohman (four), Cooper Bertolino (three) and Kendall Knodle (two) finished out the scoring.
The high point season-best lasted exactly three days for the Redskins, who surpassed the mark on Saturday with 61 points against Bunker Hill.
Sophomore Ryan Eisenbarth would have a breakout game against the Minutemen, scoring a career best 21 points in the win.
With the Redskins playing without this year’s leading scorer, Ben Clavin, Eisenbarth stepped up and scored eight points in the opening quarter as Nokomis led 23-8 after eight minutes.
Eisenbarth had six more points in the second quarter, going 4-for-4 from the free-throw line, as Nokomis led 40-11 at the break. The Nokomis sophomore wasn’t the only one to have a big first half though.
Seth Johnson added 11 points in the opening two quarters, en route to a season-best 15 for the game, while Elijah Aumann had seven of his 12 points in the first half.
The Minutemen would keep it closer in the second half, but Nokomis tacked on four more points to their advantage to come away with the 33-point win.
In addition to Eisenbarth, Johnson and Aumann, Nokomis got six points from Kendall Knodle, four from Jake Johnson and three from Cooper Bertolino.
Grant Burch reached double figures for the Minutemen with 15, but no other Bunker Hill player scored more than five in the game.
Nokomis kicks off the final week of the season with Calvary at home on March 9, followed by a road trip to Pana on March 10.
