Redskins Roll Past Pawnee

Seven games into the 2021 season, Addison Dangbar had scored 26 points for the Nokomis girls basketball team. In the last three games, Dangbar has scored 41, including 12 in the Redskins’ 48-25 thrashing of Pawnee on Monday, March 1.

Leading the team in scoring for the second time in three games, the 5’5” sophomore was 5-of-8 from the field, including a 4-for-5 clip from inside the three-point arc.

Most of Dangbar’s points would come in the second quarter, but Nokomis already had a healthy lead at that point. The Redskins got threes from Hailey Engelman, Mia Fesser and Kristen Stauder to open up a 13-4 lead on the Indians, who were forced to play from behind the rest of the game.

Dangbar didn’t help that any, dropping in seven points in the second quarter as Nokomis stretched their lead to 30-13 at the break. Stauder led the Redskins in scoring at halftime, scoring nine of her season-best 11 points in the first two quarters.

The Redskin senior wasn’t just knocking down shots, though. She was also creating opportunities on the glass, picking up 11 rebounds, another season-best, for her first double-double of 2021.

The scoring pace slowed slightly for Nokomis in the second half as Coach Brandon Engelman used 11 players in the game, but the Redskins still added to their lead by outscoring Pawnee 7-4 in the third and 11-8 in the fourth for the 23-point win.

In addition to her point total, Dangbar also led the team in assists, with three, and had two steals.

Hailey Engelman and Emma Sneddon would finish with seven and six points respectively, while Mia Fesser and Audrey Sabol added four points each. Natalie Engelman (two), Jayme Johnson (one) and Cydney Bertolino (one) also scored for Nokomis.

Nokomis will host Lincolnwood on Friday, March 5, and Carrollton on Saturday, March 6, for their next two games.
