Ramsey-Nokomis Girls Score Second Victory

The Ramsey-Nokomis co-op golf teams were in action on Sept. 23 and 24 this week as the Rams hit their home fairways at the Ramsey Lake Golf Course.

In Wednesday’s match, Ramsey played well in both their boys and girls matches, escaping with a victory over Vandalia on the girls’ side.

Brenna Hayes shot a 9-over-par 44 to take medalist honors for the match and lead Ramsey to a 201 as a team. Brooke Benhoff would back Hayes with a 49 as she tied Vandalia’s Hannah Warner for second place individually.

Clara Klieboeker would be just four strokes behind Benhoff, tying for fourth with Jadie Keck of Vandalia with a 53, while Coree Keagy continued the trend with a 55 and a tie for sixth overall with the Vandals’ McKenzie Justice. The win was Ramsey’s second of the year.

The Ramsey boys would put up a good fight against a very good Vandalia club, but fell to the Vandals 147 to 160 after a stellar 3-under-par 32 by Vandalia medalist Chase Laack. Two Rams went under 40 for the day as Gunner Finley and Dallas Sneddon both shot 3-over-par 38s for the match.

Hadley Seaton wouldn’t be far behind with a 40, while Charlie Reiss finished off the top four with a 44 for Ramsey.

Ayden Marley and Matt Hill also played for the Rams, shooting scores of 50 and 57 in the fifth and sixth slots.

Versus Altamont

The Rams may have came away with a victory on Thursday if they would have could have improved on their score from Wednesday, but a solid showing by Altamont dropped the home team to 3-4 on the season by a 160 to 173 final score.

Ben Hayes shot a 42 to lead Ramsey and finish five strokes behind Altamont’s Tyler Stonecipher, who took medalist honors for the match. Dallas Sneddon would have another solid round with a 43, matching teammate Griffin Wright for second best on the team.

Jason Ritter would edge out Hadley Seaton for the Rams fourth scoring round, shooting a 45 to Seaton’s 46, while Alden Knodle made his varsity debut and carded a 55 on the day.

Unfortunately for the Ramsey girls, they would be short on numbers and did not register a team score. Both Brenna Hayes and Coree Keagy did play well though, with Hayes shooting a 46 and Keagy shaving three strokes off her score from Wednesday to finish with a 52.

Ramsey’s next match is on Monday, Sept. 28, against Sandoval at the Ramsey Lake Golf Course.
