Rachel L. Cornwell, 72, of Virden, died on Sunday, Feb. 28, 2021, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
Visitation will be held Thursday, March 4, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Airsman and Calvert Funeral Home in Virden. Private family funeral services will be conducted on Friday, March 5, beginning at 10 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Virden with Pastor Christen Prumm officiating. Burial will follow at Virden Cemetery. Guidelines set forth by the CDC will be followed, including social distancing and masks.
Ms. Cornwell was born March 11, 1948, in Litchfield, to James E. and Elena (Uchtman) Jones.
She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Virden and The Class of ‘66 Girls.
Ms. Cornwell loved gardening, especially flowers, and was known for her positive personality and great sense of humor. She loved making others happy and will be greatly missed by those who knew her.
She is survived by her son, James C. Cornwell of Virden; mother, Elena Howarth of Virden; brothers, James (Leora) Jones of Irving, William (Lorna) Jones of Hillsboro, Ned (Sonja) Jones and George (Melissa) Howarth, both of Virden; sisters, Jane Jones of Virden, Alice (Mike) Hayes of Pleasant Plains and Carol Stout of Springfield; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and her “other son,” Ryan Lance of Virden.
Ms. Cornwell was preceded in death by her father; stepfather, George Howarth, Sr.; and sister, Martha Jones.
Memorials may be directed to the North Mac Ministerial Alliance to assist with community needs or the American Cancer Society.
