Quarton Wins Again As County Invades Cavalier Country

Litchfield’s Camden Quarton picked up his third win of the season on Tuesday, Oct. 5, as the Panthers competed in the Carlinville Invitational at Loveless Park.

Quarton beat out Rochester’s Jack Arends for the top spot by almost 28 seconds, running a 16:25.80 to Arends’ 16:58.30. The pair were the only two runners to finish under 17 minutes.

Sam Horn just missed joining Quarton in the top 10 as he finished 11th for the Panthers with a time of 18:29.08. Gavin Thimsen would be less than 30 seconds behind his teammate with a time of 18:55.95, good for 15th, while Brayden Davis was 22nd with a time of 19:18.39. Alex DeLaCruz was Litchfield’s fifth scoring runner, clocking in at 20:28.67 to finish 39th in the 92-runner field.

In addition to the top five, Litchfield also got a 21:27.05 from Kenny Traylor, who finished 56th, and a 24:30.33 from Peyton Baugher, who finished 78th.

In addition to Arends, Rochester placed four other runners in the top 10 and took home the team title at Carlinville. Breese Mater Dei was second with 59 points, followed by Litchfield with 80. The result bodes well for the Panthers’ South Central Conference title hopes as they finished ahead of Carlinville (104), Southwestern (187), Staunton (192) and Greenville (209) at the race.

Girls Cross Country

Litchfield also took third in the girls race, finishing behind Breese Mater Dei (37) and Rochester (41) with 75 points. Gillespie would finish fourth with 104 points, followed by Hillsboro (129) and Southwestern (137).

Myka Fenton ran a 21:04.55 to finish fifth for the Panthers, with two Rochester runners, Colleen and Brooke Zeibert, taking the top two spots. Colleen Zeibert, a junior, ran an 18:23.08, while younger sister ran a 20:34.58 to finish in the runner-up spot.

Like the boys, Litchfield had three runners in the top 15, with Kylee Eiting running a 22:02.74 to finish 11th and Delanie Ulrich running a 22:30.42 to finish 15th. Harley Traylor and Joelle Hughes had the other two scoring runs for the Panthers, clocking in at 26:36.08 and 26:43.55 to finish 36th and 37th in the 60-competitor field. Emma Hughes rounded out the line-up for the Panthers, running a 33:13.30 to finish 57th overall.
