The Hillsboro boys golf team was in Pana on Tuesday, Aug. 31, for a triangular with Altamont and the host Panthers.
The Toppers finished second in the meet at Oak Terrace Resort, 27 strokes better than Pana and 11 behind Altamont, who was led by co-medalists Kevin Hall and Tyler Stonecipher.
Hall and Stonecipher shot matching rounds of 36, but the even-par rounds weren’t the only good scores of the day. Altamont’s Avery Jahraus added a 38, while Preston Lyerla finished fourth overall with a 3-over-par 39.
Lyerla’s round was the only one in the 30s for Hillsboro, but Drake Vogel and Dom Haggard just missed with a 42 and a 43, which also put them in the top seven individually with Pana’s top man, Ryan Karbach, who shot a 42.
Hillsboro’s other scoring round came from Tycen Thacker, who shot a 47 to edge teammate Dillon Smail by two strokes. In addition to the aforementioned five, Austin Loskot and Hayden Titsworth also played for Hillsboro, shooting matching rounds of 55.
Hillsboro, now 2-3 on the year, will continue to work to improve next Tuesday, Sept. 7, when they play Greenville and North Mac at Indian Springs Golf Course in Fillmore.
