Plunked Panther Leads To Strange End

Posted

A late inning rally by Litchfield would come to an abrupt halt as Pana would walk away with a 6-0 victory in the battle of the Panthers on Tuesday, June 1.

Trailing 6-0 going into their last at-bat the Purple Panthers would attempt to put together a late inning heroic effort. It would take just that as the conference champions Pana Panthers would have the Purple Panthers back against the wall.

Litchfield would become a threat as they would load the base paths with Purple Panthers as Jace Stewart walked, Haydan Brown was hit by a pitch and Tate Dobrinich singled in the seventh.

Pana’s Sam Beck would get out of the jam with a pair of strikeouts though, including an odd sequence to end the game as Jacob Budd was hit by a pitch, but called out on strikes when it was deemed that he went around on the pitch.

Even though it would be a big blow leaving those runners on base, they would not be the only runners left on the base paths as Litchfield would leave five others on the bases in the prior innings.

Pana would open up the scoreless contest in the top half of the third inning as they would plate the first run of the game. They would put runs on the board in the following two innings, adding three runs in the fourth and two runs in the fifth as they would build a 6-0 lead through five innings of action.

Litchfield’s starting pitcher Jace Stewart would give up the first run but his solid effort on the bump would keep Pana at bay. Stewart would give up seven hits and struck out three batters, with the lone run in the third being all he would surrender.

Stewart was also productive on the offense side of the diamond as he would produce one of three Litchfield hits. Carson Saathoff and Tate Dobrinich would add the other two hits for Litchfield.

Even though Litchfield would drop their last regular season contest, the effort was seen on all parts of the diamond. The Purple Panthers would finish the regular season with a 2-10 overall record, as they headed into regional action on Wednesday, June 2, in Auburn against the Auburn Trojans.

Litchfield would beat the Trojans 5-3 to extend their season and move on to the regional semifinal at North Mac on Friday, June 4.
