Phyllis Byers, 92, of Springfield, died on Jan. 15, 2022, at Bickford Senior Living.

A private graveside service will be held at Camp Butler National Cemetery. Bisch and Son Funeral Home in Springfield is assisting the family.

Mrs. Byers was born March 8, 1929, to the late Almeada and Raymond Westerfeld. She married Miles Byers in Champaign on Sept. 30, 1949, and he preceded her in death on Jan. 8, 2004.

Mrs. Byers received a nursing degree from Lincoln Land Community College and was retired from Memorial Medical Center. She was a member of Cotton Hill United Methodist Church (formerly Woodside UMC), the Illinois Society of Professional Engineers Auxiliary and the Ansarettes.

Mrs. Byers was a volunteer at Memorial Medical Center, the Senior Center, and both the Central Illinois and the Midwest Mission Distribution Center. She also loved to travel and visited all seven continents.

She is survived by her sons, Dan (wife Candice) Byers of Springfield, Glen (wife Frances) Byers of Springfield, Dr. Douglas (wife Brenda) Byers of Hillsboro, Stuart (wife Mary) Byers of Chatham, her daughter, Ann of Urbana, 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by one grandchild.
