Papin Gets Second Title At SCC Meet

Kaci Papin earned her second straight conference title in the high jump on Thursday, May 27, as the Hillsboro junior provided one of the highlights for the Lady Hiltoppers in Pana.

Papin, who cleared 5’5” to tie a school record in the 2019 SCC meet, went over 5’0” again to claim the title. Both Papin and Litchfield rival Carly Guinn topped the 5’0” mark, but Papin did so on her first attempt to earn the championship, while Guinn cleared it on her third attempt to finish second. Papin also placed fifth in the 100, edging teammate Paitynn Wilson, 14.30 to 14.712.

In addition to Papin’s title and top five, Sierra Compton also grabbed two fourth place finishes in the distance races. Compton ran a 6:00.91 in the 1600 and a 13:08.40 in the 3200 for a solid finish in her first SCC meet.

Meagan White added in a fifth in the shot put and an 11th in the 800 for the Hiltoppers, while Paitynn Wilson was seventh in the long jump.

As a team, Hillsboro finished with 33 points, tying Carlinville for the sixth spot. Pana would finish first with 162 points, followed by Litchfield with 122 points and Roxana with 109 points.
