Imagine Hillsboro’s Parks and Recreation Committee presented a plan to begin developing a system of mountain biking/hiking trails on a section of property at the Old Hillsboro Lake, behind Sherwood Forest Campground, at the city council meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 10.
Much like Litchfield’s popular bike trails, Imagine Hillsboro’s proposed bike trail system, named “Oo-De-Lally” (a play on its potential home in Sherwood Forest), would be open for riders of all skill levels and would include single track trails, flow sections, skill sections and obstacles.
This Thursday, Aug. 19, the committee will hold an informational meeting for residents to learn more about the plans for the trail system, ask questions and express concerns regarding the potential project. The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Firemen’s Club in Hillsboro, located at 736 City Lake Road. This will also be a time for the community to meet some members of the local mountain biking community, get to know the volunteers spearheading the trail project and learn how to get involved.
Hillsboro City Council will vote on the proposal during the Tuesday, Aug. 24, council meeting. Those that cannot make this week’s informational meeting are encouraged to present feedback questions and concerns on the “bike trail thread” that is currently active on Imagine Hillsboro’s Facebook page, or contact Caitlyn Voyles at 217-710-2495.
