Nora Louise (Hemken) Russell, 88, of Hillsboro, died on Sunday, March 21, 2021, at Montgomery Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Taylor Springs.

Visitation will be held Saturday, March 27, from 12 to 2 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church in Hillsboro. Funeral services will follow, beginning at 2 p.m. at the church with the Rev. Jeff Hemken officiating. Burial will be held at Oak Grove Cemetery in Hillsboro. CDC guidelines will be followed, including social distancing and masks. Hough Funeral Home in Hillsboro is assisting the family.

Mrs. Russell was born Jan. 28, 1933, in Walshville, to Charles and Mamie (Fenton) Hemken. She married Melvin Russell on Jan. 30, 1949, and he preceded her in death on Dec. 20, 2017.

She attended Hillsboro High School and went on to work for the city of Hillsboro for several years before retiring in 1995.

Mrs. Russell was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Hillsboro, past member of the Eastern Star Herman Chapter #95, Montgomery County Breast Cancer Support Group, and delivered Meals on Wheels.

She is survived by her children, Lynn (Jim) Washburn of Taylor Springs, Steve Russell of Davenport, IA, Debby (John) Lewey, Sherri (Mike) Finn, both of Hillsboro, Mike (Shawna) Russell of Athens and Mark (Teresa) Russell of Rochester; 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Delores Neathery and Norma Shipman, both of Hillsboro.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Russell was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Charlene Butler; and granddaughter, Jayleigh Noell Lewey.

Memorials may be directed to the Montgomery County Cancer Association or Calvary Baptist Church in Hillsboro.
