The legacy of longtime WSMI radio broadcaster Terry Todt will be on display on Saturday, Dec. 11, as the third annual T. Todt Shootout takes place at the Nokomis High School gym after a year off due to COVID-19.
Todt, a Raymond native who was revered for his passion for high school sports as sports director at WSMI, passed away after a long bout with cancer on May 23, 2019, at the age of 63. Proceeds from this year’s 16-team, eight game basketball extravaganza will benefit the Montgomery County Cancer Association, who assisted Todt and hundreds of other cancer patients in Montgomery County.
The first T. Todt Shootout was held at Carlinville High School in 2018, with Todt there to kick things off and broadcast some of the action. The second event was held a year later at Lincolnwood High School, Todt’s alma mater.
This year’s shootout begins at 9:30 a.m. with the Southwestern and Williamsville girls basketball teams facing off in the opener. Montgomery County girls basketball rivals Hillsboro and Litchfield play next at 11 a.m., followed by the first boys contest of the day between Hillsboro and Athens at 12:30 p.m.
Once the Toppers and Warriors clear the court, the Carlinville boys will take on Tri-City at 2 p.m., followed by another county clash, between the Lincolnwood and Litchfield boys at 3:30 p.m.
The final girls game of the day will be at 5 p.m. between Nokomis and Greenville, followed by Centralia taking on Effingham at 6:30 p.m. and Nokomis playing Madison at 8 p.m.
The games will be broadcast on WSMI 106.1 and will be streamed live at www.youtube.com/c/NokomisCUSD22.
