Noah Thomas Uhlry, 84, of Hillsboro, died early Sunday morning, July 11, at Montgomery Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Taylor Springs following a battle with prostate cancer for over a year.

Visitation will be held Friday, July 16, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Funeral services will follow, beginning at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Uhlry was born July 24, 1936, in Mt. Olive, to Thomas David and Lucinda Susan (Osborn) Uhlry. He married Betty Elizabeth Ann Watson on Oct. 14, 1977, and she preceded him in death on June 17, 2003.

During his career, he served as an auto mechanic and worked for Nelson Auto in Hillsboro, Yokomie in Litchfield, Gorden Oldsmobile in Taylorville and Whitley Motors in Hillsboro.

Mr. Uhlry was a member of the First United Pentecostal Church in Schram City; Hillsboro Moose Club since 1993, where he served as a trustee for many years; and founding member of the Glenn Shoals Lake Association.

He and his wife enjoyed boating, fishing and family outings at the lake lot on Glen Shoals Lake. During their retirement years, they traveled extensively, including international trips to Poland, Germany and Mexico, as well as many states and sites in the U.S.

In addition to boating and fishing, Mr. Uhlry enjoyed woodworking and made lawn ornaments, bowls and other items for his stepchildren. He also enjoyed restoring old cars, camping and entertaining his stepchildren, stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren, who adored him.

He is survived by his sisters, Darlene Reike of Butler and Rosemary Dudly of Hillsboro; many nieces and nephews; stepchildren, Sandy (Terry Cullen) Watson of Burien, WA, Linda (Greg) Bernhardt of Raymond, Dennis (Margaret) Watson of Normal, Rose (Jim) Schwartzkopf of Newburgh, IN, and Kenny (companion Karen White) Watson of Hillsboro; nine grandchildren, CJ (Madi) Cullen of Seattle, WA, Tony (Ashley) Walch of Raymond, Mandy (Jason) Lemon of Butler, Jennifer (Fernando) Cornejo of Bloomington, Joe (Marit) Watson of O’Fallon, Tom Watson of Peoria, Rachel (Ryan) Payne of Sesser, Kate (Craig) Phifer Newburgh, IN,  and Amanda (Jason) Keesling of Robinson; and 17 great-grandchildren, Miles Cullen, Ayden and Amelya Walch, Ryder and Rumer Lemon, Carmen, Lauren and Kate Cornejo, Helen, Sofia and Lydia Watson, Calvin, Zoey and Eric Phifer, Brody and Madilyn Keesling and Mila Hamm.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Uhlry was preceded in death by his parents; later companion, Sherry Brossard; brothers, Roland and Richard Uhlry; sister, Susan Richmond; half-brothers, James and John Davidson and Harold Uhlry; half-sisters, Fern Williams and Edna and Ella Hallemen; and stepgranddaughter, Jenna Hamm.
